Raül Bartrolí is the Town Council Heritage and Tourism technician, as well as an expert prehistorian who drove us through the park facilities. First of all, he talked about the forthcoming Neanderthal Museum project. Then, he pointed out the outstanding conservation of the pieces remaining at the Abric Romaní site (a geological shelter). He also talked about the Neanderthal’s life and he compared the current humans with them in a physiological way.
After that, we went to Abric Romaní where we watched a very didactic audiovisual presentation about life in the Middle Palaeolithic era. Then, Raül asked us to get down into the site and described the excavation methods carried out every year by the archaeologists’ team.
In the end, we tried some experimental archaeology out and we were able to experience how to cut silex, distinguish old animal bones and to enjoy practicing archery and javelin throw in order to approach different prehistoric hunting methods.
We spent a very useful morning and we would like to thank Raül Bartrolí for such an interesting and entertaining visit.
