Last 14th April, we took a nature workshop called “Conèixer el teu riu” carried out by GEDEN, ─Grup d'Estudi i Difusió de l'Entorn Natural─. This entity gives this workshop for primary education scholars and high school students very successfully.
We were interested to follow this workshop to know our river’s flora and fauna and to complement the tourist research and projects that we are carrying out in the Vilanova del Camí Riverside Promenade.
We filled in a didactic small notebook where we could work on the physical and chemical features of water, such as the hardness, the temperature, the transparency and the pH or the acidity degree of our river. We also could prove the water is clean and is suitable for the fauna’s life. The channel side doesn’t exactly obey the optimum conditions. There, we clearly saw the waste spill.
When we walked along the Riverside Promenade we knew the name and characteristics of the different trees and bushes in the bank forest. In order to contemplate the fauna, the GEDEN responsible members –Mònica Tomàs and Cristóbal Jiménez– set up a telescope which allowed us seeing various river living bird species close to them.
We consider that this workshop is very didactic for the different schools in our area, because it helps us to become aware and get to know our natural environment, and to learn how to listen to it, respect it and to look after it.
Thanks to Mònica and Cristóbal for sharing with us their knowledge.
